Treat of the Day - Cupcakes
This weekend a bunch of my friends went to downtown London to decorate cupcakes. While it was a lot of fun, the cupcakes were very disappointing. The icing was all wrong, so it didn't pipe correctly and it was just a big pile of goo on each cupcake. On top of that, my kids didn't like the London cupcakes because the icing was too buttery which explains why it didn't pipe properly.
So to prove to myself that I can actually decorate cupcakes, as if I was really concerned, I decided to make cupcakes for the treat of the day. I just did blue icing, but it was fun :)
My youngest daughter had her second birthday last month. We decided to get her a ball pit, but after shopping around I found out a "ball pit" was really just a blow up pool. So I decided to get a much larger pool so that everyone can enjoy it. I think the two older kids enjoy the ball pit just as much as the youngest lol. Anyways, we awkwardly fit the huge ball pit in the living room for awhile, but balls were everywhere and we couldn't get to somethings. We thought about rearranging the living room, but everything fits so nicely where they are right now. So we decided to give the ball pit its own room. Fortunately we had a spare room that was being used as a storage room, so we had the extra space. Now the kids can all enjoy the ball pit and if any balls spill out, then it is contained in its own room!
My son's teacher asked me to do some crafts for the End of Year Luau. We made a paper cup tiki and crepe paper hula skirts.
For the tiki just take a solid colored paper cup, found in the party supply section of any superstore, then have the kids decorate it with foamie stickers, markers, ect. I used glue dots for the googly eyes and the crepe paper hair.
To make the crepe paper (party streamers) hula skirt you just cut a long strip of butcher or craft paper. Then take a large hole punch, in this case it was a square, and cut along the strip of paper. Have the kids tread the crepe paper through the holes and with a glue stick glue the crepe paper onto itself. When they are done wrap it around their waste and staple it. You can staple a lei around their waste as well.
Learn this neat trick to peel an orange with a spoon. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it. I will apologize for any umms you hear, there are a few in there, but I am working on them. I like making these videos, but I am a little nervous in front of the camera. Once I get good at making these videos, I want to do a series on how to sew. Until then, enjoy this video that will teach you a new skill to impress your friends...ok well maybe not impress, but it is a cool party trick.
